COMMUNITY BULLETIN JANUARY 2008
|
2008 – LETS MAKE THIS THE YEAR WE MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT FOR
THIEVES.
One of the more frustrating elements of being a Police
Officer is visiting victims of crime.
Especially people who have been burgled. I really don’t like to see
people upset or annoyed. It makes me angry.
Who the hell do they think they
are? What right do they have? No right at all, that’s what.
Thankfully we don’t have very many houses broken into in
this area, but it does still happen.
We do suffer from cars being broken into and sheds being
screwed for power tools and lawnmowers.
What makes it all the more frustrating for me and my chums
here at the station is that sometimes we do tend to make it too easy
for them. With just a little bit of thought we and by ‘we’ I mean
‘you’ can make it hard for thieves.
If they
are going to steal your kit let’s make it hard for them.
For starters let’s not go around leaving possessions in
our cars. As I have publiscised in this bulletin Mrs. S was kind
enough to buy me an all singing all dancing satellite navigation
system. I have used it in the car and it’s great, I love it. It has
buttons, colours, it makes noises, and a lady speaks to me! How
could I have survived this long without it? I just don’t know.
I tell you one thing though, I don’t leave it in the car
for a minute, not anywhere, not under any circumstances, no sir not
me, that little baby will still be mine next Christmas. It will not
be used to fuel some drug addiction.
How about my wallet, which contains lots of goodies that
any self respecting thief would die for. Never left anywhere. Short
of taking it into bed with me that little sucker stays by me at all
times. So there is a start for you. For wallet substitute handbag
for the ladies and bobs your uncle we look after those three things
properly and we cut crime and make the thieves work harder.
If they have to work too hard they might go away. Let’s
give it a go. Are you in?
On the 11th of January a very nice lady who just happened
to have bought me a shiny new Sat Nav system for Christmas went
shopping in Tisbury.
She used the cash point outside the Co-op and then
wandered off to get some sausages.
Once in the butchers she realised that she had left her
money (and mine) hanging out of the cash point machine.
A quick sprint across the road but the money had gone.
The now somewhat crestfallen lady dragged herself into the
Co-Op to enquire if there was any hope that the money may have been
retained by the machine.
She was however greeted by the news that some kind soul
had taken the money from the cash point and handed it in to the
Co-Op. With the money safely pocketed she was able to bag those
sausages. Very nice they were too!
May I take the opportunity to thank the honest and kind
person for handing the money in, you are a credit to yourself and
your family and I salute you.
